The journey takes about 2–2.5 hours depending on traffic and passes through the Túnel de Occidente (opened 2006), which dramatically shortened the route. Buy your ticket at the Sotrasanvicente window in the terminal — no advance booking needed. The bus drops you at the La Piedra turnoff first, then continues to Guatapé town.

If you are flying in and heading straight to Guatapé, you can hire a driver from the airport directly — about 1.5 hours and COP 200,000–300,000. Skip the 45-minute drive into Medellín and go straight to the lake.
